Being an organic farm has helped farmland bird populations enormously. The abstinence of pesticides means that insects are much more prevalent and therefore, feeds food into the bottom of the food-chain. In addition to this we are Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) participants which means we are helped financially to provide habitats for endangered species. Our HLS agreement helps directly the following species: Lapwing http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/l/lapwing/index.aspx Tree Sparrow http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/t/treesparrow/index.aspx Barn Owl http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/b/barnowl/index.aspx But we have noticed in the last 10 years bird populations on the farm have grown massively. Call in to the shop to see the RSPB bird survey of our farm and see what you can spot for yourself! |
